in the woods // laudate dominum

Laudate Dominum omnes gentes. Laudate eum, omnes populi.
Quoniam confirmata est. Super nos misericordia eius,
et veritas Domini manet in aeternum.

Praise the Lord, all nations; Praise Him, all people.
For He has bestowed His mercy upon us,
and the truth of the Lord endures forever.

halloween 2017

Over the years my mother has really taken ownership of Halloween and transformed it into a wonderful celebration for family and friends. By offering a launching pad for trick-or-treating adventures—plus ample supplies of her famous homemade mac ‘n cheese—she has helped us create lots of fun memories together. This year we had the Archangel Michael (Zane), Jason Todd/Red Hood (Lillia) and assorted companions, an adorable ladybug (my niece Kyla), and a brand new baby (my nephew Levi)!

praise the fall

But now in autumn with the black and outcast crows
Share we the spacious world: the whispering year is gone:
There is more room to live now: the once secret dawn
Comes late by daylight and the dark unguarded goes.

Between the mutinous brave burning of the leaves
And winter’s covering of our hearts with his deep snow
We are alone: . . .It is the human season.

—from “Immortal Autumn” by Archibald Macleish

fourteen

Lillia is fourteen

The bud stands for all things, even for those things that don’t flower,
for everything flowers, from within, of self-blessing;
though sometimes it is necessary to reteach a thing its loveliness,
. . . and retell it in words and in touch it is lovely
until it flowers again from within, of self-blessing . . .

—from “Saint Francis and the Sow” by Galway Kinnell

Wishing a very Happy Birthday to my first true love—Lillia Nora.
Now you are fourteen.
